VERTICAL GARDEN — CANADIAN THISTLE — A PROHIBITED PLANT IN NYC.
The project is inspired by the Canadian Thistle, which is a prohibited plant in New York State because of its invasiveness. The propagation, transport, and sale of this plant are prohibited by law. The term ’invasive’ describes plants which are considered as not natural residents. Invasive plants provide counter play to human control. The work centers around concepts like foreign soil, immigration, borders and territories, invasiveness and control, and how that affect urban nature and scenery. Overall the project asks, if it is possible to cultivate an affective agriculture based on natures own forces like a Vera Icon opposite the political land? Through transcripting studies the plant has been fractalized and made into a geometric wall scenery.
